Disc Golf Members Thank You Tournament

Back in February a couple of locals asked me to participate in their disc golf club. In just 7 months I have been holding on for dear life as this gang of plastic flinging crazies brute force march through project after project, with the mission of transforming the Fountain Hills Disc Golf Course into a premier world-class destination.

Thanks to DGA & Dan/Keith (from Spinners) we had wicked momentum from day one. These magnificent beauties replaced the course baskets with the all powerful Mach X.. the best of the best.

Our fearless Treasure (mad scientist/engineer), Kevin Drossel, left gallons of sweat on the grass as he dug up old rusty mounts, installed new, and developed an unbelievable cap system to not only extend the life of the locks, but also help new-to-the-course players find the next tee pad.

In May (i think) we hosted a FUNDraiser tournament. With over 60 participants we raised enough funds to cover the cost of new tee signs. The Town of Fountain Hills volunteered to help us cover the cost of sign hardware. The signs are in production now and the sign hardware is safely stored away (installation project begins on 10/4).

Many local players helped draw awareness to the $10,000 grant from Republic Services.. the funds were awarded to the ‘greening of fountain hills’ project. The Fountain Hills Board has been working w/the ‘greening’ team to recommend tree positions to enhance the course play (and in some cases, help w/safety concerns).

With over 70 (maybe 60, could be 80) members we are incredible happy with our first year results. We have made a lot of friends, lost a lot of discs.. and most importantly promoted the sport of disc golf.

From what I understand.. on Thanksgiving weekend there are a few tournaments going on (City Memorial, something in Tucson). By all means.. please make a best effort to attend those tournaments. However, if you can’t commit to a multi-day tournament or don’t want to drive to out of the valley.. Please join us for the first annual FHDGC Thank You Tournament. The purpose of the tournament is to pull players to the Fountain Disc Golf Course and show off the efforts made possible by our club members and supporters.
